Moonta, on the Yorke Peninsula in South Australia is 163kms from Adelaide and has a population of around 3,000 who enjoy both a rural and beach side lifestyle.
It was originally a mining town with the dsicovery of copper in 1861 and many of the buildings from this era still survive, making Moonta a valuable heritage area.
The name comes from an Aboriginal word, either 'moontera' or 'moonta moontera' thought to mean 'place of impenetrable scrub.
